A new v20.2 Infinite Flight teaser has been released regarding the way you will be able to select a general aviation callsign.
There’s two things that make up a general aviation callsign. A country code (N) and an ID (623KB). N623KB for example. There will be many countries to choose from as seen in the teaser and each country has their own configuration of what’s allowed in the ID.
You can see a full list of all the different configurations for your general aviation callsign here. You can use that as a template to plan ahead for the release.
In the real world, in most countries, unscheduled general aviation flights identify themselves using the call sign corresponding to the aircraft’s registration number (also called N-number in the U.S., or tail number). In Infinite Flight though we won’t be bound to using the registration number of the aircraft. We will still have the freedom to choose which country code and ID we will use regardless of the aircraft’s registration.
At the time of writing this, the Infinite Flight staff have stated that your current callsign you use will be grandfathered in. But you should strongly consider simply changing to a real world callsign that will be accepted in-app.
If you’re in a virtual airline or organization, here is a quote from Philippe Rollin, Infinite Flight Co-Founder and Developer.
“The VA designator (limited to 5 letters all caps) pulled from IFVARB approved VAs will show in brackets in front of your username in game (eg: [MYVA] philippe). It will not be part of your callsign to avoid spamming ATC frequencies and for realism purpose”.
This will continue to be a work in progress.
“again this is temporary. We have bigger changes coming that should make this easier. We just couldn’t do it for this release.”
