Elevation Approximate vs Position Accurate Spot Elevations

A small detail that may go unnoticed is the difference between a position accurate elevation approximate spot elevation and position accurate spot elevation. The elevation approximate spot elevation is just that an approximate of how high the land is. The USGS provides the geographic information but exceptions can be made for areas covered by dense woodland or obscured by fog or clouds; in those areas, aerial photographs cannot provide the detail needed for precise mapping.
