Ground navigation aids and Morse Code

April, 27, 2019 by

Ground navigation aids continuously transmitted their alphanumeric identification in Morse Code, a practice which continues to present day. The station identification, often with the corresponding Morse conversion, is shown on air navigation charts.

In the real world, to ensure safety of flight, it is essential that the pilot identify the station before using it as a navigation or approach aid.
