How to judge, a mile a minute, from ground speed

November, 13, 2021 by

Every 60 knots in ground speed is a mile a minute. 1 mile is 0.87 nautical miles.

If an aircraft is flying at 120 knots GS (Ground Speed), they will travel 2 miles a minute. For a visual reference, the flight path vector is 30 seconds long.
