The Infinite Flight team has covered how to clear an aircraft for a GPS approach, but how do you fly one?
The GPS Approach is a non-precision approach designed to navigate terrain or serve runways without an Instrument Landing System (ILS). The GPS Approach is defined by a series of waypoints and altitude restrictions that the pilot will follow to the runway threshold, free of conventional guidance such as a localizer/glideslope etc.
Check out the new video tutorial that was just released were Tyler Shelton, ATC Community Manager, will walk you through all of the phases of a GPS approach as well as explain some key points about the different types. It’s worth a watch whether you are new to this type of approach or just need a refresher as you might learn something new you didn’t know before.
