Try to use 360s far from the field

April, 19, 2020 by

Today I got the chance to control a busy field without approach, as tower and ground.

A very common command in use was “make right 360” and “make left 360”. It’s a great way to buy yourself time for when the pattern is full but try your best to use it when the aircraft is the furtherest possible way from the airport.

The further away, the less of a cluster it can become. I had about four aircraft having to do 360s about 15nm East of the airport, and it wasn’t a nightmare but I’d prefer not to repeat it.
