Understanding the MFD

June, 23, 2020 by

The MFD, or multifunction display is one of the most important displays on the flight deck. The MFD displays the flight plan and traffic in either a circular or arc image. The range can be set by the pilots, depending on the scenario. Additionally, the MFD is able to display the bugged heading, distance to altitude (shown by a banana shaped arc) and many other small instruments. The configurability makes the MFD a must for pilots to maintain situational awareness. A properly configured MFD can quickly tell the pilot where they are, who’s near them, and where they’re going.
