First off, I’d like to thank every person who decided to join our Slack community from the beginning. We built up an active community of over 450+ like-minded awesome people, hosted tons of live AMAs with amazing guests, and made a lot of new friends in the process.
We talked in this post how we were moving our community from Slack to our website. I’m happy to report that today the move has officially been completed!
If you were part of our Slack you’d probably wonder why you no longer have access to it? We made the decision to now use our Slack only for internal team communication. We do a ton of work behind the scenes to put together the content you see and our Slack will continue to be the main outlet for our writing team to collaborate.
I’ve been putting off this step of removing all non-team members for a bit because, one, it’s not an easy task to deactivate hundreds of accounts, two, I felt obligated to message each and every one of you to thank you for joining and to share our plans. I then remembered “oh right, we have a blog”, I don’t need to go to that extreme, and here we are.
All our community-related events will take place on our website as I said. All our AMAs place take in the comments section of the special AMA blog posts we put out. More people than ever before now will have access to participate. We’re quite excited about this.
By using Slack we had to enact an age restriction of 16 years of age, that’s limiting. Now by using our blog instead, there is no age restriction to comment. You don’t need to sign up for anything to participate. You don’t need to download a messaging app. You don’t even need to provide your name or email to join in.
All you need is an internet connection, a web browser and a way to be notified by social media, our daily newsletter or RSS feed when new opportunities to participate arise. If you have any questions about the move or suggestions for us, let us know here. We love interacting with all of you!
