Many pilots may not know this but even when you become an IFATC controller you are continually “tested”. The learning doesn’t stop once you join.
As a training server controller, your rank is Observer. Once you pass the tests to join, you then are promoted to the Apprentice rank. After a brief period you are then promoted to Specialist.
When you get promoted to Specialist you get put into a probation period, should not last more then 7 days. Supervisors will come and watch when you open and provide feedback. Tyler, the ATC Community Manager, then looks at the feedback and determines whether the controller needs to be demoted, stay in the check ride phase longer or stay Specialist and leave the check ride phase.
But even after the controller leaves the check ride phase, they are still closely monitored by the IFATC Supervisor team that serve as moderation for the team.
