Zulu Time Appreciation Day

March, 14, 2021 by

We have a ton of holidays, but this one we made because we appreciate Zulu time.

Why you may ask? Today in the US we have Daylight Savings time and it is a drag. If you forgot, surprise, you’re welcome.

Coordinated Universal Time or UTC is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time. It is within about 1 second of mean solar time at 0° longitude, and is not adjusted for daylight saving time. I love it.

You say a time, immediately your three friends from Japan, Greece, Russia will understand what time you mean.

Time zones were identified by successive letters of the alphabet and UTC±00:00 was marked by a Z as it was the point of origin.

Since the NATO phonetic alphabet word for Z is “Zulu”, UTC is sometimes known as “Zulu time”. “Zulu” is the universal standard in aviation.

No confusion, simple 24 hour clock for everyone to avoid messy time zones.

You’ll see Zulu used in the ATIS, METARs and TAFs in Infinite Flight for example.

Convert your local time to Zulu here.
